Grip Strength As A Metric For Health

A pretty well-done study out of Australia recently determined that grip strength better predicted 4-year mortality than blood pressure. As a strength athlete and somebody who treats hypertension on a daily basis, I found this very interesting. Does this mean that we should throw out our lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide in favor of farmer's carries and Rolling Thunder work? The answer is a resounding "HELL NO!" Applying this study's findings to the general strength training populace (who is young and healthy otherwise) is a misapplication of the data. Check out this week's Meathead Minute to find out why!
